Delivering Meals and Supporting Lewis County Seniors!

This week, Peter Abbarno delivered meals to Lewis County Seniors in Toledo; supporting the many seniors impacted by COVID-19 and the Stay Home Orders.

I’ve been involved by helping and supporting the Lewis County Seniors since their inception as a seprate organization apart from the County. Meeting seniors in Toledo and delivering meals was rewarding, but also a reminder of the needs that are sill in our community; especially for those who are vulnerable or on fixed incomes. In just two hours in Toledo, we delivered meals to 40 seniors, including 3 newly registered seniors.

Thank you to Glenda Forga, staff, volunteers, supporters, and the Lewis County Seniors Board. Countless hours go into planning and managing all the Lewis County Senior programs.

The Lewis County Seniors organization is important to our community by offering both nutritional and enrichment programs in Lewis County. Unfortunately much of enrichment has been curtailed. After county funding cuts, the Lewis County Seniors formed a 501(c)(3) organization to continue serving the vital needs of our community; including nutritional programs.

There are tremendous benefits to supporting our Lewis County Seniors. Our seniors built and contributed so much to our community and I believe providing for their wellbeing is the right thing to do. It is also the fiscally responsible thing to do, because we know that nutritional and enrichment programs are highly effective preventative measures to maintaining the quality of life and health of our senior community.

Meeting Katie, Roy, and the Osborne Family!

Family Farming is part of the history and tradition in Washington State and the 20th Legislative District; contributing to more than $10 billion dollars in revenue from over 35,000 farms and ranches. As your State Representative, supporting our family farms, dairies and agriculture community will continue to be a priority.

I am proud and honored to be supported and endorsed by the Washington Farm Bureau and many family farms, like LR Dairy in Curtis.

Get Washington Working: Half of Americans Believe Jobs gone Forever!

Nearly one-half of Americans believe their job is lost forever. According to an April AP-NORC poll, 78% of those in households with a job loss thought they’d be temporary. Now, 47% think that lost job is definitely or probably not coming back.

The Washington Stay Home-Stay Safe orders from the Governor were made without a long-term plan or strategy to re-open and support small businesses. Many Washingtonians agreed with the initial orders while a plan was put in place, but the lack of leadership and collaboration left many without a job, without economic security, and without hope. This is not good for families, businesses, students, or anyone.

Together, we need to Get Washington Working. This is about more than jobs, this is about the political machine in Olympia not working in the best interest of Washingtonians. We need communication, collaboration, and a less arbitrary and unilateral approach to governance.

Peter Abbarno, Candidate for State House of Representatives in the 20th Legislative District. Peter is a business owner, attorney with a Master of Laws in Taxation, mayor pro-tem in the City of Centralia, and husband and father.

In May, the Governor ended the bipartisan legislative task force focused on a long-term recovery plan. No new bipartisan committee has been created and the Governor’s weekly orders are unilateral without bipartisan legislative planning.

Economic Rebuilding from the Stay Home Orders will be the most complex issue facing the State Legislature. The Washington economic and revenue forecast council estimated the State of Washington is facing a massive deficit!

Despite high unemployment and massive deficits, the Governor adopts a centralized planning approach with little to no input from the bipartisan legislative leadership. In fact, the Governor ended the bipartisan recovery task force in May.

I have experience as a Centralia City Councilor balancing a $150 million budget, I also have experience as a business owner and attorney on building sustainable economic plans for individuals and businesses.

I do not support creating new taxes or increasing the rate of existing taxes. The state cannot tax its way out of a recession or to prosperity on the backs of working families and small businesses.

I support:

First, the State must cut the budget; not with a chainsaw, but with a scalpel. We must protect the most vulnerable in our community while at the same time recognizing that the democrat majority and Governor have over spent and created unsustainable programs with unreliable revenue.  The 2019 budget spends 19% more than the previous state budget. We can reduce spending while maintaining vital services.

Second, the State must grow our economy and eliminating regulatory barriers for small business to expand and create jobs. Over burdensome and clearly political and arbitrary regulations are preventing our community and small businesses from growing and creating jobs.

I will help get Washington back to work and jumpstart the economy by reducing taxes and regulations and encouraging job creation and job growth.

Getting Washington Back to Work!

Inslee: Restrict Activities; Require More Masks; Extend Eviction Moratorium!

Today, Governor Jay Inslee restricted the activities of many Washingtonians and businesses by rolling back phased reopening, requiring more masks in common spaces, and extending the moratorium on evictions.

Working families and small businesses in Washington are going to be significantly impacted by the Governor’s latest ‘roll back’ Order without any plan for relief! It is clear to me, and has been for some time, that a special session is necessary!

I urge 2/3 of the legislators to call a special session and address the health and economic needs of our State. The Governor’s unilateral actions under RCW 43.06.220, without any articulable plan or strategy, have limitation and the duly elected Legislature must act now to provide direction during this leadership vacuum
