Stronger Families. Stronger Communities. Stronger Washington

The Mandatory Sexual Education bill does nothing to strengthen families. It only makes government stronger. If we are truly to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty and destructive behaviors, then Olympia must empower local families and communities.

Please consider signing the petition to learn more about how parents like us can empower families and local communities. And, please consider supporting my campaign at ElectPeterAbbarno.com

This issue is more complex than merely ‘are you for or against the teaching of sexual and health education.’ This is an issue of ‘who should teach it,’ ‘where should it be taught,’ and ‘when should it be introduced.’ I am choose our families and our communities first.

If the argument is that those parents aren’t able to teach their children about Sexual Education or to change behavior, then why do we support prevention and diversion programs in the home; like financial wellness training, Dolly Parton Imagination Library literacy programs, or any social issue directed in the home. Because, we know ending intergenerational poverty and breaking the cycle of detrimental behaviors starts locally at home!

The ‘birds and bees’ discussion and discussions about abuse and assault are necessary and sometimes uncomfortable discussion for families; but, that is what builds family trust, builds family connections, and has lifelong positive impacts. My philosophy is to give families the tools and information necessary for success and encourage the discussions to start locally and at home.
