I’m Peter Abbarno, Candidate for the State House of Representatives in the 20th Legislative District. I appreciate the opportunity from the Thurston County Chamber of commerce to be part of the on-line video voter’s guide.
The 20th District includes South Thurston County, virtually all of Lewis County, East Cowlitz County, and the City of Woodland in Clark County. To say the least, it is a large district with a lot of opportunity . . . if we create the right economic atmosphere.
I am a business owner and attorney with offices in Olympia and Centralia, I am the mayor pro-tem in the City of Centralia, but most importantly, I am a husband and father. My wife is an 8th grade math teacher at Centralia Middle School and my children are in 4th and 2nd grade.
I am running, as a father and husband, to make our communities safer and more affordable for working families. Good paying family wage jobs and diverse economic opportunities should not be the sole province of King County and Seattle. I won’t perpetuate the urban – rural divide, but help bridge the gap by emphasizing the importance of every corner of the 20th District and Washington State!
Leaders must recognize what I do – cities, counties, and are co-dependent and opportunity must be fostered in every corner, including here in Thurston County and in the 20th District. Whether it is Black River Blues Blueberry farm in Rochester, Sandstone Distillery in Tenino, or Woodland Truck Lines in Cowlitz County, I’ll help create an environment of opportunity for businesses to be successful.
As a business owner myself, I support growing our economy by eliminating unnecessary regulatory barriers, investing in workforce development, creating child care and early learning opportunities for families, incentivizing business growth and job creation, and reducing the overwhelming tax burden on families and small businesses.
