Students from Mrs. Beddall’s fourth-grade class at Centralia Christian School visited the Washington State Capitol this week to learn how their state government works. State Representative Peter Abbarno, R-Chehalis, hosted the visit.
During their time at the Capitol, the class met with Abbarno in the House Republican Caucus Room, asked questions about lawmaking and state government, and learned how everyday citizens can shape public policy. They also toured the historic Capitol campus and capped their visit with a group photo on the House floor.
“Civic education is essential. These students are the next generation of leaders, and allowing them to learn about government at the Capitol helps spark curiosity, build confidence, and encourage them to stay engaged in their communities,” said Abbarno, House Republican Caucus Chair. “I’m always grateful for the chance to host classrooms like Mrs. Beddall’s and help bring these lessons to life.”
Abbarno, who regularly meets with students and schools from across the 20th District, said visits like this reinforce the importance of helping young people understand their role in government.
“When young people understand how their government works, they’re more likely to participate, vote, volunteer, and advocate for others,” Abbarno added. “These experiences plant the seeds for a lifetime of informed, engaged citizenship.”
