Stronger Families. Stronger Communities. Stronger Washington

Abbarno visits Lewis County Boys & Girls Club in Chehalis | The Daily Chronicle

The Boys & Girls Club of Lewis County prides itself on providing a safe place in the area for youth to learn and grow.

But it seems the program itself is growing right alongside them.

With the United Learning Center under construction in Centralia and eyes on other growth opportunities, the local impact of the nonprofit has become a sight to see.

Showing continued support for the growth of the youth programming nonprofit, state Rep. Peter Abbarno, R-Chehalis, visited the Boys and Girls Club of Lewis County earlier this week to take a tour of the facilities led by local youths and meet with students and staff.

In a recent news release, Abbarno stated the visit to the local Boys & Girls Club matches well with his own priorities of promoting opportunity and stability for children and youths throughout Washington state’s 20th Legislative District.

“When we invest in our kids, we invest in our future,” Abbarno said. “The Boys and Girls Club is a perfect example of how partnerships between local organizations and the state can create lasting impacts.”

According to the release, Abbarno met with two student members of the club who currently attend W.F. West High School as well as volunteers, staff and others.

Abbarno and his colleagues in the state House of Representatives have provided state funding for the nonprofit in its local efforts in recent years, allocating more than half a million dollars in state funding to the construction of the United Learning Center in the state’s 2025 legislative session.

“The Boys & Girls Club gives kids a safe, positive place to learn, grow and connect with their peers,” Abbarno said. “I have been proud to help secure funding through the capital budget to expand their reach and ensure more young people have access to these opportunities. These programs — grounded in healthy lifestyles, academic success and good character and citizenship — strengthen families and communities.
