American Public Works Association announced the theme of this year’s National Public Works Week is “It Starts Here”. I want to thank our local Public Works’ staff and departments for keeping our communities safe, healthy, growing, and innovative.

The City of Centralia Public Works Department, headed by Kim Ashmore, is comprised of Water, Wastewater, Stormwater, Streets, and much more. The City is showing the students how our community is built and works.

Infrastructure starts with public works… Growth and innovation starts with public works… Mobility starts with public works… Security starts with public works… Healthy communities start with public works. To celebrate Public Works Week, Centralia Public Works staff is visiting schools and educating students. Our community appreciates the hard work of our Public Works staff and their dedication to the students during this week.

There is a weekly schedule as follows:

  • Monday at Edison Elementary from 11:00 – 1:00;
  • Tuesday at Jefferson/Lincoln Elementary from 11:00 – 1:00;
  • Wednesday at Centralia Middle School from 10:30 – 12:30;
  • Thursday at Fords Prairie Elementary from 11:00 – 1:00; and
  • Friday at Centralia College daycare from 10:00 – 12:00.

This is a great opportunity for our students to learn more about Public Works, and maybe, acquire an interest in a Public Works career. I encourage you to visit a school during Public Works Week and learn more about our City and how it works!
