State Rep. Peter Abbarno, R-Chehalis, recently hosted fourth-grade students and chaperones from Edison Elementary School in Centralia at the Washington State Capitol, according to a news release.
The visit provided students with firsthand experience of the state’s legislative process and an opportunity to engage directly with their elected representatives.
“It is always inspiring to see young minds eager to learn about our state’s government,” said Abbarno, House Republican Caucus chair. “Hosting students from Edison Elementary reminds us of the importance of fostering civic education and encouraging the next generation to participate actively in our democracy.”
During the tour, students explored the Legislative Building, where they learned about the Capitol’s history and the importance of the work being done on behalf of their community.
“Engaging with students from my home district is one of the highlights of serving in the Legislature,” Abbarno said. “Their curiosity and questions show a genuine interest in how we can work together to make Washington a better place for everyone.”
Located in the heart of Centralia, Edison Elementary is a K-6 school that prides itself on fostering strong parent participation to ensure student success. A highlight for the school community is the upcoming celebration of the 100th Day of School, a milestone that reflects the school’s vibrant, active learning environment, the release stated.
This visit marks a continued tradition of educational tours designed to give students a deeper understanding of state governance.
Abbarno said he remains committed to supporting educational initiatives and looks forward to welcoming more students to the Capitol, according to the release.
